Reinforcement

In the EN ISO standards, the reinforcement function is defined as "The use of the stress-strain behaviour of a geotextile or a geotextile-related product to improve the mechanical properties

of soil or other
construction materials".

Reinforcement with the appropriate Fibertex product prevents vertical soil walls and steep slopes from collapsing. For minor reinforcement jobs, nonwoven Fibertex Geotextiles can be sufficient, but generally the reinforcement function calls for a more rigid material. When dealing with reinforcement, the important  parameters are tensile strength and elongation. Although the elongation properties of nonwoven Fibertex Geotextiles are excellent, they are not appropriate for the reinforcement function, which is why Fibertex offers following products for large-scale reinforcement projects:

Fibertex Fiberforce (geotextile strengthened with a woven structure)
Fibertex HS Woven (100% polyester woven)

Fibertex GeoGrid (100% polyester grid)

Fibertex Fiberforce

Fibertex Fiberforce is a woven PP geotextile strengthened with a reinforcing polyester yarn to maintain the good separation and filtration properties of the Fibertex Geotextile, while increasing the tensile strength and decreasing the elongation properties significantly. The mechanical properties of Fibertex Fiberforce make it ideal for reinforcing slopes and other soil structures.

Fibertex HS Woven
Fibertex HS (high strength) Woven is a woven geotextile made from 100% polyester. Fibertex HS Woven is used solely for reinforcement, and has a high E-modulus (high strength at low elongation), making it suitable for reinforcement as hydraulic properties are not in focus. The mechanical properties of Fibertex HS Woven make it ideal for reinforcing slopes and other soil structures.

Fibertex GeoGrid

Fibertex GeoGrid is a 100% polyester grid solely for reinforcement. Fibertex GeoGrid has a mask width of 20 mm and consequently it should be combined with a nonwoven geotextile for separation. Fibertex offers a range of GeoGrid products with high strength at low elongation. The stressstain properties for Fibertex GeoGrid are found in accordance to relevant CEN/ISO standards. The mechanical properties of Fibertex GeoGrid make it ideal for reinforcing slopes and other soil structures.
