Fibertex history from 1968-2002

Fibertex A/S was founded in 1968 as a subsidiary of EAC - The East Asiatic Company Ltd., a major Danish conglomerate. In 1996 following a new investment programme EAC divested the majority of the shares to Dansk Kapitalanlæg Aktieselskab, Kommunernes Pensionsforsikring A/S and to the management of Fibertex.

March 2002 saw a change in ownership. Fibertex was taken over by the Danish industrial conglomerate SCHOUW & Co. The new ownership structure should benefit Fibertex and its customers by providing long-term stability and additional investment capabilities.

Fibertex's first production line for drylaid needlepunch nonwovens commenced the production of carpet backings at the company's current location in Aalborg, Denmark, in 1968. Expansion continued throughout the 1970-1980’s. Geotextiles (building and construction industry) and furniture/bedding construction fabrics were added to the product portfolio.

Fibertex reassessed its strategy in 1996 and the decision for a massive investment programme was taken. Major investments related to the production of drylaid needlepunch nonwovens were carried out - a new fibre spinning line replacing older equipment and special equipment for production of air through bonded nonwovens were implemented - but apart from that 1996 was the year where Fibertex decided to enlarge its business area substantially.

Fibertex decided to diversify into a new area of the nonwoven business due to an investment in a new production technology, which was the first of its kind in Europe. Fibertex invested in new spunbond technology, the latest state-of-the-art production equipment, a so-called SMMS (spunbond-meltblown-meltblown-spunbond) production facility. The investment enabled Fibertex to expand the existing product programme substantially and thereby further strengthen the company's market position by entering the hygiene market and became supplier to the vast, and still growing market for disposable diapers, sanitary napkins, and incontinence products.

Today, Fibertex is capable of supplying highly specialised product solutions seen from a weight-performance-cost point of view, based on the SMMS production facility. With full capacity utilisation of the SMMS production line investment in another state-of-the-art production facility was made in Aalborg - this time a SSMMS (spunbond-spunbond-meltblow-meltblown-spunbond) line. Fibertex is one of the most important suppliers of spunbond solutions, and based on the state-of-the-art technology able to go beyond the bounds of what has been possible so far.

From 2003-2008

In 2003, Fibertex pursued its global efforts with the establishment of a manufacturing site in Malaysia. The spunmelt plant, set up in Kuala Lumpur and in operation from mid-2003, has strengthened Fibertex’s position in the Asian region and ensured shorter delivery times and enhanced competitiveness in relation to the personal care industry, protective clothing and other industrial applications. In late 2005, another state-of-the-art production line was brought into operation in Malaysia which significantly strengthened Fibertex’s position in South East Asia.

In 2004, Fibertex acquired the Czech nonwovens manufacturer, Fibertex A/S (formerly Vigona, a.s.) in order to expand the strengthen the strategic business platform of the Technical Division. Fibertex established a new, state-of-the-art and internationally competitive factory in the Czech Republic with the market’s most efficient and advanced production technology for the production of nonwovens for technical applications.

In June 2005, it was decided to expand production capacity in Aalborg by adding a multi-beam spunmelt production line and the line was operational during the second half of 2006. Concurrently, Fibertex has successfully optimised the operation of the existing production lines in Aalborg.

Today, Fibertex employs approx. 800 people.

Fibertex has since the beginning in 1968 built up an effective and well functioning sales and distribution network. Since 1990, Fibertex has established subsidiaries in Spain, Belgium, France and Portugal and is globally represented in more than 70 countries worldwide.

Today, the Fibertex Group is a market-leading manufacturer of needlepunch and spunmelt nonwovens for industrial and hygiene applications. The vision of Fibertex is to enlarge its position to be one of the leading players globally. Through continuous investments - related to the Personal Care Division as well as the Technical Division – and the establishments abroad both in Malaysia and the Czech Republic, Fibertex's main objective is to be at the front edge of competition and to ensure its customers optimal solutions related to their specific needs - simply to make the perfect match!
